Silver Jublee Reunion - IPM 88 batch (pl post ur comments here)

Silver Jublee Reunion - IPM 88 batch (pl post ur comments here)

Hi! I taking the liberty of copying (from the comments section of my earlier post) Sanjay's Post on the above "as a NEW post." I hope with this as a New post, some of us will not miss out reading it and reacting to it. Pl write your comments against this Post and not against the earlier one. This would help in archiving thoughts/reactions /actions etc. from the take off point..

SANJAY's EARLIER NOTE:

All right guys and gals, here is what I have gathered from the IPMBloggers on the Siler Jubilee celebrations. Please add, modify, suggest or delete your thoughts. I will make a mail and send it across to Asit Mohan with a copy to few of you.

a) We need to get together for the Silver Jubilee Celebrations which would fall around 2013 or 2011 (depending on whether we take the pass out year which was 1988 or the admission year which was 1986). Pradeep has suggested earlier, what do you guys say to that?? I will frame accordingly. Only when we have some timeframe we can take this forward. Please give in your thoughts to this.
b) IPM needs to arrange for our stay arrangements if it is going to be in Meerut / Ghaziabad, Delhi.
c) Wherever it is, cost of travel will be borne by the ex-student.
d) The meet could be for 2 days with detailed agenda to be followed.
e) Chappar and others would be on us and we need to find out how to do it, nothing to do with the Institute, I hate to explain Asit Mohan what "Chappar is" and why he should fund it....

Some other thoughts to ponder and give your feedback on.

a) What if the ex-student plans to get his family? Should the cost of stay be borne by him / her or can it be shared or let the Institute take this?
b) I am willing to talk and take the agenda forward with Asit Mohan and others at the Institute, I need folks close to our Institute like Avnish or others to coordinate the effort for arrangements if this goes though, do we have some volunteers willing to jump in. I can lead but need some executers as it would be difficult for me to coordinate this from here.
c) Once we have the core team in place I need to know who is willing to do what (depending on their bandwidth).
d) Can we have some suggestions on what funding can we generate on our own if the institute is willing to do partial funding for this Noble Idea?
e) What can we add to make this as a memorable event, maybe something which we can give back to the Institute, for them to remember the difference in what they have now versus what they had as the only memorable "Class of 88'?
f) What time of the year would be your preference? Garmi, Sardi or Baarsat. ?
g) Finally back to the basic question, when (which year) would we like to have this?

Any other thoughts?? Please let me know and I will work.

Sanjay , your list is really comprehensive and sufficient to get started. I think I will just react to it instead of coming up with fresh ideas which can wait for the present.

Silver Jublee ideally would mean 25yr of passing out but I guess most of us would be keen to make it 25yrs of joining IPM as waiting for another 4/5yrs is a long time . I am open for both.

The location should be Meerut coz all are memories/happenings/Institute etc. are associated with the place.

Yes cost of travel should be borne by each alumuni.

One and a half to two days is sufficient for the reunion. It can be ideally done on a weekend.

It should defintly be open for the families. This might be one of the very rare or may be the only occasion that we might get to share this aspect of our lives with them. Choice should be left to the individuals . The Institute can charge on per person basis , that is the same amt. as being charged to the IPMites. To plan better the registration/confirmations etc. can be done well in advance.

We can avoid months during which board/final exams are held. I would personally like to avoid winters .May be summer holidays would be ideal.

I think Sanjay this thing will go on more smoothly incase the Institute takes a policy decision to host silver jublee function for all the passing out batches. It would be really good if they can host it for one or two batches before us so that many operational issues can be ironed out by then.

We can leave the decision regarding funding to the Institute . We can react to it once we know what is expected of us in terms of sharing the expenses.

Regarding setting up of the core group, events for the two day reunion etc. .....am sure we all will have tons and tons of ideas...there is plenty of time for that...

May I request all others to come back to Sanjay atleast on the following 3 points so that he can have some basic guideline to take it further :

1. Yr. for hosting 2. Location 3. Sharing of expenses

Incase u would like to react to more points or add up a few more...u r more than welcome....

The detailing by Sanjay & Manju encompasses everything,I agree with their views and also believe in "earlier the better" so it could the year of joining, however to add-on:

1)Summers are dreadful in this part, can we think of another time band?

2)Cost of travel and may be a "bit more" can be surely shared. We can also think of introducing the "spouce & the children tax" to make the project viable.

3)I volunteer myself for any/all liason with Meerut/IPM. I feel Meerut is a good choice.

4)We can think of creating a small corpus through which we can fund an annual award at the IPM. We can think of the award theme but I feel it should be given away by anyone from the batch of 88 only! What say..??

Cheers!!
